About me
Adebayo Chris Katiiti (He/Him/They/Mwami/Ssebo) is a human rights activist and advocate for the transgender Community with over six years of experience advocating for 2SLGBTIQ+ Refugees and Newcomers and gender-diverse communities. He founded RARICANow, an Edmonton-based NGO that supports 2SLGBTIQ+ Refugees and Newcomers. Since settling in Edmonton, Adebayo has dedicated himself to helping newcomers like himself navigate the labyrinthine refugee process and access needed services.
By forcing on leadership in social justice and inclusion, Adebayo has been able to take Compassionate, Collaborative, and Inclusive Leadership; Anti-Racism Capacity Building Course he earned at MacEwan University and has fully completed Fundamentals of Leadership course at NAIT and holds a degree of Bachelors of Science in Sports Science from Makerere University Uganda.
Adebayo is committed to eradicating all forms of oppression and anti-Black racism while championing mental health advocacy and social justice in gender-diverse communities.
He came to Edmonton, Canada, for the ILGA swimming competition in August 2016, following the traumatizing events after Uganda police raided the gay pride. As the reigning Mr. Gay Pride Uganda of 2015, he was arrested, highly beaten, and undressed to check if he was a man or a woman.
His guiding principle in activism is a quote from Desmond Tutu: Exclusion is never the way forward on our shared paths to freedom and justice. Adebayo is a board member (QTBIPOC Liaison) at ANSWERS Society. He is a leader and organizer of Stonewall Canada and a social justice champion. He is a storyteller and a creator of the Katiiti Consulting Company.
He was honored to receive the Change Maker Pride Award from EPFS in June 2018. He is a multi-talented artist, musician, and songwriter whose music is inspirational with components of social justice and recently released an Album titled “SAMEBLOOD” inspired by his lived experience as a black transgender man in Canada
